Hello! I'm Ellen Davis. I've been creating art since I was a young child, and painted in acrylic and oil all through high school and college. Once I joined the corporate world, my art activities took a back burner, as the daily grind took over. I work for myself now, so my life has gotten calmer since then. I had time to take a watercolor class a while back, and was surprised by it. I'd always been afraid of the medium (everybody used to tell me it's difficult!) but that class launched a whole new painting passion for me.
Personally, I find watercolor to be a very easy medium to work with. I can work on a painting as long as I like and then just walk away. When I come back, the colors I mixed will still be available and I can sit down in whatever clothes I happen to have on and start work immediately. Not so with acrylic paint!
So I've been on a watercolor painting kick and happily, it's starting to blossom into some income so I can at least pay for my supplies. My commissioned work includes pet portraits, house portraits and I've done all sorts of original art for my own house, friends and family.
I also love to teach what I learn. My mother used to tell me that I was a natural-born teacher, and it does come into play here in writing this website. I'm hoping you will find my writing style helpful in your journey to master watercolor.
I think at this point the old saying about pictures and words is a good way to show you my skill level. These are just a few of my paintings:
A house portrait given as a Christmas gift.
Dog portraits. These little dogs have sadly passed away, but the owners were very happy to receive these portraits in their memory.
Birds! Birds are a favorite subject of mine.. there are just so many different colors, types and sizes.
And did you know you can buy watercolor cards for custom creations? I love these..
If you are interested in commissioning a painting with me, please don't hesitate to reach out. I can work from digital photographs and am happy to ship paintings all over the US and Canada.
